Known for his uncompromising approach to traditional repertoires on the electric guitar, Maxime Petit emerged from the underground scenes of Flanders, where he discovered post-punk, free folk, and improvised music.

Over the years, Maxime Petit has developed a guitar style that is both elegant and abrasive, sitting at the intersection of American folk (John Fahey, Marisa Anderson) and no wave (Rhys Chatham, Sonic Youth). Committed to rooting his practice in his own local context, he also works with repertoire drawn from European traditions - specifically French and Irish. He transcribes medieval songs for the guitar, as well as Irish slow airs and Auvergne bourrées, delighting in sharing the stories behind them. For him, folk is not merely a musical style but a mirror reflecting how we live together as a society.

Maxime Petit has led many lives. Beyond his work as a musician, he has been a librarian, record store clerk, electrician, and lighting technician. He has been an active member of various autonomous spaces that foster a radical, safe, and inclusive culture.

A member of the bands Louis Minus XVI and Club Sieste, he has also collaborated with artists such as Will Guthrie, Ava Mendoza, Shane Parish, Daniel Carter, and Brandon Lopez.

He has performed at venues including Instants Chavirés, Cafe Oto, Ateliers Claus, Cave 12, and Magasin 4, as well as at festivals such as Météo, Incubate, and Baignade Interdite.
